Laminectomy

The Lamina is the sheet of bone on the back of the spinal canal protecting the nerves.  "Ectomy" refers to removal of the part in question.  Therefore, laminectomy, is removal of the lamina.

Often, laminectomy is the procedure of choice for spinal stenosis.
